DragonWire for Linux
An archive for x86-64 computers. It runs on Ubuntu 22.04 and newer, Debian 12+, Fedora 36+ and current Arch, Mint and Kali. It needs GTK 3, which every regular desktop already has.
Download DragonWire-linux-x64.tar.gz
Install
tar xzf DragonWire-linux-x64.tar.gz cd DragonWire ./install.sh
install.sh adds DragonWire to the application menu and a dragonwire command. It writes nothing outside your home directory. The program runs from the unpacked folder, so move it where it should stay first, for example ~/Apps. It also runs without installing: ./dragonwire.
HTTPS
The “HTTPS / Processes” page in the app shows where the local certificate is and how to trust it. Firefox and Chrome keep their own certificate stores, so for a browser the easiest way is the “Browser” button, which opens a separate profile already set up for DragonWire.
Capturing chosen programs
This needs root because it uses cgroup v2 and nftables. DragonWire asks for your password through polkit (pkexec). If your system does not have it, install the polkit package or start the engine with sudo. The regular proxy works without root.
Updates
When a new version is out, the app shows a bar with a “Download” button. Unpack the new archive over the old folder. Settings and history live in ~/.config/DragonWire and ~/.local/share/DragonWire, so they stay.
Uninstall
./uninstall.sh removes the menu entry and the command, then delete the folder. Remove settings by deleting the two directories above.
